New York Times Omits Widely-Reported AP ‘Fast And Furious’ Article from Drug Sting Coverage

On October 31, government officials broke up a drug ring in Arizona. The New York Times had a great article on it, and even though it wasn’t on the front page, it was in a good spot in the US section of their website. But that’s where my compliments stop, because the AP reported a major development the following day: two guns in that raid are connected to Operation Fast & Furious.

Put aside your personal feelings about The New York Times and remember they are The New York Times.

They’re supposed to be the “best” source of printed news for us. Usually, when you want information on an important subject you head to the Times. Not this time. The AP posted the update at 7:10PM EDT. ABC News posted the report that very same night. Actually if you Google the title, “AZ Sheriff Says 2 Guns Tied To Fast & Furious” there are a lot of hits!

A lot of hits.

That’s the first page. I have surfed the Times over and over and cannot find the AP article anywhere. This is a huge development, because more and more guns from this operation are being found on American soil. Plus, the items found were linked to Sinaloa, Mexico’s most powerful drug cartel. Usually we hear about the Zetas, but believe it or not, this drug cartel is worse. The website In Sight has a great profile on them. The Christian Science Monitor wrote five facts you need to know about the Sinaloa cartel. I encourage you to read up on them.

So how come The New York Times didn’t update or at least post the AP article like virtually every other news source in America, including Washington Post and MSNBC? I emailed Mr. Brock and hopefully I will receive a response. I even tweeted the author of the story, Marc Lacey, to tell him he should update his article. I haven’t received a response from him, even though his profile encourages news tips. If I receive an update I’ll post it.
