Blacks in New York Grow Sick of Being Used as Liberal Pawns

In a sign that the Democratic Party stranglehold over the black community is starting to slip, hundreds of blacks protested in New York this past week against the harmful educational policies that the NAACP and the United Federation of Teachers union are trying to force upon their children.

As reported by Caroline May for The Daily Caller, “charter school parents staged another of several rallies to voice opposition to a lawsuit brought by the UFT and NAACP against the New York City Department of Education. If the organizations are successful with their suit, it would prevent enrollment or re-enrollment in 17 charter schools and stop the closure of 22 public schools.”

As one minority mother said at the rally, “I support unions, but I cannot support you condemning my little girl to failure tomorrow.” She couldn’t be more right, though she really should reconsider the “support unions” part of her statement. The Harlem schools the union is fighting tooth and nail to keep open have been described in the New York Post as “hellholes” where “Kids run wild. Trash cans are overturned. Mouse droppings and litter abound. Books and supplies fly through the air. Classrooms are ransacked…students and teachers are threatened physically and robbed.”

The teacher’s union has decided that the plum salaries and benefits enjoyed by their members are more important than whether or not black children receive a good education. They are doing all they can to destroy the charter school movement that has for the first time in generations given minority children a chance to succeed, in order to preserve their monopoly which has decimated the black community with far less than 50% graduation rates in most urban communities.

Failed schools are only one example of how liberal politics have been a cancer on the black community, and thankfully many blacks are starting to realize it. Valued by Democrats only for their votes, every single promise liberals have made to minorities—a good education for their children, economic opportunity, safe neighborhoods, you name it—has turned out to be nothing more than empty political talk in order to secure their support.

Millions of blacks are moving away from failed liberal controlled communities throughout the north and relocating to conservative states in the south in search of economic opportunity and a better life. Whether they know it or not, they are voting Republican with their feet as millions move to escape the drug and violence filled streets that are the Democratic Party’s true legacy in the black community.

I can only hope that more and more blacks will wake up to the danger that liberal ideology pose to them and their families. With every parent who demands a better education for their children and every person who leaves New York, Chicago, Buffalo and Cleveland for a better life down south, the better chance blacks have of breaking the Democrat stranglehold that has been destroying their communities for far too long.
