McCain: I was duped into supporting TARP

Posted by Cubachi in Politics on Feb 22nd, 2010

Senator John McCain is the kind of republican we need to get rid of in Washington.
Sen. McCain has served his country in the military. He is an inspiration. He defeated the odds and showed love of country over defeat as a POW in Vietnam. He served honorably and should be commended for that service everyday.
However, that sort of man who served honorably in the military is missing in action in the senate. In an interview with The Arizona Republic, McCain deflected blame on his vote for TARP to then Secretary of Treasury Hank Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernake instead of himself. He said he was “duped” into supporting it.
“Something had to be done because the world’s financial system was on the verge of collapse,” he said. “Any economist, liberal or conservative, would agree with that. The action they took, I don’t agree with.”
Everyone agreed?
Over 400 world famous economists of different political persuasions and universities signed a letter to Congress on September 24, 2008 pleading them to vote against the bailout.
The charade game is over Sen. McCain. How about some straight talk?
Sen. McCain is now facing what his favorite candidate in the Florida senate race, Gov. Charlie Crist is facing with Floridians: Backlash.
Sen. McCain can not masquerade himself as a conservative any longer nor go behind the coattails of Sarah Palin. As I recall, McCain called himself a “Maverick” who was not afraid to buck his party and reach across the aisle to support the auto bailout, cap and trade, amnesty, closing GITMO, etc.
The awakening of the American people due in great measure to the disaster that is Obama (who McCain help elect with his lame and lethargic campaign), as well as the uprising of the Tea Party movement and conservatism, will not stand idly by for another one of McCain’s lies and these same, dull establishment figures who want to whitewash their moderate/liberal record.
Sen. McCain has over 20 years of serving in US senate. However, as his opponent JD Hayworth likes to say:
“We should thank John for his service and welcome him back home.”
