The Washington Post is reporting that Senator Harry Reid has been in China with six other Democrats and three  Republicans on what they call a “secret, week-long trip to China.”  Other members of the delegation include Democrats Barbara Boxer,  Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer,  Frank Lautenberg, Jeff Merkley and Michael Bennet.  Republicans on the trip include Senators Richard Shelby, Mike Enzi and Johnny Isakson.

The Xinhua News Agency quoted China’s Vice Premier Wang Qishan as saying it was a “great pleasure for me to have an opportunity to meet 10 heavyweight U.S. senators.”  It should also be pointed out that the visit coincides with China’s crackdown on dissidents.

Question:  Is it more than coincidence that this secretive trip is occurring as America considers raising the debt ceiling which will mean we need the Chinese to buy more of that debt?
