Chaos 1, Democrats 0: No Plan To Govern, No Plans To Govern With

GOP Leader: “Democrats Here In The House And Senate Are In Chaos. The American People Deserve Better.”

Washington (Jun 25) Another week has come and gone in which Washington Democrats continued to run out the clock without addressing Americans’ everyday concerns: no plan to create jobs, no plan to rein in wasteful spending, no plan to fix ObamaCare, no plan to address the root cause of our financial crisis, and no plan to pass a critical troop funding bill.   House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) addressed Democrats’ failure to lead on the nation’s most pressing issues yesterday during his weekly press briefing:

“Democrats here in the House and the Senate as you’ve seen now for weeks, are in chaos, unable to pass an extender bill, unable to pass a war supplemental.  They have no plan to create jobs.  They have no plan for a budget to address our $13 trillion national debt, no plan to reform Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, no plan to stop the skyrocketing health care costs that ObamaCare will only make worse.  They have no plan to provide the resources for our troops that are in harm’s way as we speak.  And no plan to stop the leak in the Gulf and help restore the local economy that’s being devastated.  The American people deserve better, and Republicans are going to continue to offer what we believe are better solutions.”

Chaos On Jobs: Dems Have No Plan To Deal With Anemic Private Sector Job Growth:

“Poll: Most Say Obama Lacks Clear Plans on the Oil Spill, Energy or Jobs. …
And when it comes to creating jobs, just 34 percent say he has a clear plan; 54 percent say he does not.” (CBS News, 6/21/10)

Job growth disappoints.  … That’s less job growth than many expected, and will not provide a boost to the Obama administration, which has been struggling to demonstrate that its economic policies are helping to ease the nation’s epic unemployment problem.  The government said that 411,000 of the jobs created in May were temporary positions with the once-a-decade US Census, and not the kind of employment that can drive a sustained economic recovery.  That meant that the overall private sector employment growth for the month was anemic – up by just 41,000.” (Politico, 6/4/10)
Chaos On Debt: Dems Have No Budget Plan To Address Our $13 Trillion National Debt:
“[House Majority Leader Steny] Hoyer said a long-term plan is needed to put the federal budget on a sustainable path and that tax increases and spending cuts would be required.  So far, however, Democrats have not produced such a plan, instead pointing to Obama’s deficit commission as the forum for such decisions.” (CQ Today, 6/22/10)
Chaos On Troop Funding: Dems Have No Plan To Provide The Necessary Resources To Support Our Troops In Harms’ Way:
Massachusetts Democrat Jim McGovern fired off a letter Wednesday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), asking her to hold off on a war-funding bill … The bottom line: The president and congressional critics, long on a collision course over the war in Afghanistan, are hurtling ever faster toward each other since the ouster of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, and doves on Capitol Hill are feeling a little tougher right now.” (Politico, 6/25/10)
Stuck in neutral, Democrats are watching their summer economic agenda whittle away each day, with Republicans driving the debate through Senate filibuster rules and their political lock in the House over new war funding sought by President Barack Obama. Republican leaders warned Wednesday that their House members will withhold support by voting ‘present’ on the war funds if Democrats attempt to add new domestic spending, including $10 billion to help local school boards avert teacher layoffs in the fall.” (Politico, 6/24/10)
Chaos On ObamaCare: Dems Have No Plan To Stop Skyrocketing Health Care Costs:
“And people in all walks of life face rising healthcare prices and skyrocketing insurance premiums, which in many parts of the country are rising at double-digit rates this year. … Obama’s senior healthcare advisor acknowledged that the road ahead may be rough. ‘Will plans continue to raise prices? Will some people continue to lose coverage? I think the answer is yes,’ said Nancy-Ann DeParle, head of the White House Office of Health Reform. ‘It is something we are concerned about.’  DeParle called the next several years a ‘bridge period’ until 2014...”  (Los Angeles Times, 6/22/10)

“‘The Democrats have guaranteed that the American health care system is going to be affordable. They put it in the title of their bill,’ health policy analyst Bob Laszewski said.  So everything that happens after March 23, 2010 [the day President Obama signed the measure] is theirs. They own it.’  ‘What makes Democrats more immediately vulnerable is what's going to happen to people's health insurance costs next year. They're going up.” (NPR, 6/15/10
Chaos On Fannie And Freddie: Dems Have No Plan To Reform Gov’t Mortgage Companies At The Heart Of The Financial Meltdown:
“The huge and continually rising cost of that decision has spurred national debate about federal subsidies for mortgage lending. Republicans want to sever ties with Fannie and Freddie once the crisis abates. The Obama administration and Congressional Democrats have insisted on postponing the argument until after the midterm elections.” (The New York Times, 6/19/10)
Americans aren’t convinced new Wall Street rules will prevent a future financial crisis.  An Associated Press-GfK Poll finds that 64 percent of those surveyed aren’t confident that a financial regulation overhaul before Congress will avert another meltdown.” (AP, 6/21/10)
Chaos On Gulf Oil Spill: Dems Have No “Clear Plan To Deal With The Oil Spill In The Gulf”:
Most Americans do not believe President Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil spill in the Gulf, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll. Just 32 percent say Mr. Obama has a clear plan to deal with the oil leak, while 59 percent (including 64 percent of Gulf coast residents) say he does not.” (CBS News, 6/21/10)
