Progressives Demonstrate Selective Outrage with Huckabee ‘Gun Point’ Quip

I was wondering what had happened to the left’s über sensitivity to words following the Tucson tragedy. After raising such hysterics to increase threats to Sarah Palin and gift Trent Humphries a death threat on national television, the left got quiet when they headed to Wisconsin.

There was no mention of the threats against GOP lawmakers, Ann Althouse, no comments when progressives called for violent revolution, nothing.

Mike Huckabee says this:

“I just wish that every single young person in America would be able to be under his [Barton's] tutelage and understand something about who we really are as a nation. I almost wish that there would be like a simultaneous telecast and all Americans would be forced, forced — at gunpoint no less — to listen to every David Barton message. And I think our country would be better for it. I wish it’d happen.”
and all hell breaks loose.

Ignore that you heard laughter at the precise point in the video when Huckabee delivers the ‘gun point’ line, exactly the response expected from a joke. When did the left become so stodgy? About the time they became the antithesis of punk rock? That seems about right.

Whereas the left were a bit more the rebels during the 60s because their ire was cultural, not due to big government, today they are total sellouts to their advertised principals and are starched, stuffed shirts for The Man. I understand why they lost their sense of humor: I would to if I the entire trajectory of the ideology in which I believed brought me to the miraculous goal of being a welcome mat for big government. Aim high, kids! Oh! ‘Aim!’

That being said, it’s excellent people-watching to witness the left zip their lips over real death threats from their side but break out into banshee wails because Mike Huckabee made a joke. A Wisconsin teacher in charge of children was arrested for threatening to kill a Republican lawmaker and his entire family because of a vote. But please, go on with your indignant outrage over a goofy line in a guy’s speech.

Is this supposed to be some “gotcha” moment? When they catch Huckabee slipping death threats under the doors of Democratic lawmakers or threatening to off someone’s kids because a lawmaker voted for a bill asking union employees to give a modest few percentage points more towards their benefits, then we can act like this is worthy of more than pure mockery. Until then, be consistent by policing your side.
